EFFECTIVE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM NEEDED FOR FILIPINOS TO HAVE ACCESS TO QUALITY MEDICAL SERVICES – GO

Former Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Bong Go underscored the need for an effective health care system that would ensure that the Filipino people have access to quality medical services.

Go, who served as guest speaker at the Gawad Galing Kalusugan 2018 awarding ceremony held at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium recently, said regardless of social class or geographic location, Filipinos must be able to avail quality health care services.

The former presidential aide also recognized the efforts of public and volunteer health workers and other health partners of local government units in the delivery of services to the people.

“I will also push for increasing the salaries of our nurses and providing more benefits for our barangay health workers because they are essential in keeping the citizenry healthy. Our healthcare programs will only be effective if we also take care of our healthcare providers,” Go pointed out.

Meanwhile, Governor Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado said that Gawad Galing Kalusugan is one of the ways the provincial government expresses gratitude to stakeholders who work hard to have a healthier Bulacan.

“Our healthcare programs will only be effective if we also take care of our healthcare providers.”

“Our government is recognizing the need for everyone, young and old to be physically fit and mentally well that may call the nation to aspire for greater things. It is very important for a healthy body, to contain a creative mindset for the fulfillment of a citizen,” Alvarado said.

The governor also announced the efforts of the province to modernize and widen the services offered by the Bulacan Medical Center.

“Almost one third of our budget, we are spending on health. We now have P260 million worth 200-bed capacity hospital. We have zero billing here. We did not loan for it. That is our provincial government’s savings,” he noted.

Vice Governor Daniel Fernando also cited the important role of the health workers.

“We strongly recognize your efforts to promote high level of care for our fellow Bulakenyos, You are our partner in government towards building a vibrant and strong community,” Fernando said.

The Gawad Galing Kalusugan awarded the title “Outstanding Government Hospital in Public Health Program Implementation” to San Miguel District Hospital, followed by Baliwag District Hospital, first runner up, and Rogaciano M. Mercado Memorial Hospital as second runner up.

Meanwhile, the outstanding LGU health partners were City of San Jose del Monte (first place), San Ildefonso (second place), and Angat (third place). They took home P30,000, P20,000 and P10,000 respectively, and trophies.

For individual awards, Dr. Roselle Tolentino from the City of San Jose del Monte was hailed the outstanding rural health physician; Maricel Sison, outstanding public health nurse; Crizaldy Nieto, outstanding sanitary inspector; Marvin Sanchez, outstanding medical technologist; and Marciano Ygot, outstanding rural health midwife. Each took home P10,000 cash incentive and a trophy.

Meanwhile, 13 barangay health workers (BHWs) who served voluntarily for 30 years and 12 BHWs that served for 20 years were given loyalty awards and took home P5,000 each.
