The entirety of Eastern Samar unites in cleaning the coastal areas of the province through project KLEAN which abbreviates “Kalikasan, Linisan, Estehanon Aksyon Na”.
Project KLEAN is a year-long project that sets its eyes to clean and protect the coastal areas and preserve natural marine resources.
This initiative also aimed to address environmental concerns while providing tangible benefits to the participants, which is rice in exchange of the collected garbage in the coastal area.
This was launched last May 9, 2023 that was implemented in all municipalities across Eastern Samar, encouraging Estehanons to collect both biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste.
Participants received a kilogram of rice for every kilogram of waste collected.
In exchange for their efforts, participants received a kilogram of rice for every kilogram of waste collected. This innovative approach not only incentivized environmental cleanup but also provided a valuable resource to the community.
Governor Ben Evardone initiated Project KLEAN as part of his commitment to environmental stewardship and the protection of Eastern Samar’s coastal areas.
By engaging all components of the Local Government Units and National Agencies in Eastern Samar, the project fostered a sense of collective responsibility and unity in addressing environmental challenges.
Throughout the duration of the project, a total of 2,925 sacks of rice were distributed to the participants who actively contributed to Project KLEAN in their respective municipalities.
This achievement highlights the significant impact that collaborative efforts can have in both cleaning the environment and providing essential resources to the community.
The exchange rate of 2 kilos of biodegradable waste is 1 kilo of rice and 1 kilo of non-biodegradable waste is equal to 2 kilos of rice underscored the urgency of environmental protection.
