The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) was recognized by GCash during the first Digital Excellence Awards.
The awards are given to government units and agencies that paved the way in uplifting the lives of their constituents and clients by pioneering the use of digital financial products to help ensure the safe and efficient delivery of their services.
DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez said he was pleased with the recognition of the Department’s Business Name Registration System and acknowledged GCash as a longstanding partner of the DTI.

DTI bagged three awards namely the
(1) Excellence in Innovation and Leadership Award, for being one of the pioneers in adopting digital payments;
(2) Excellence in Digital Public Services for being the top partner in terms of online payment transactions; and
(3) Special Award as Digital Financial Inclusion Champion for Assistant Secretary Mary Jean Pacheco, in recognition of her office’s various initiatives with GCash in pushing for financial inclusion, particularly in promoting the digital ecosystem to more Filipinos.

Meanwhile, Undersecretary Ireneo Vizmonte thanked GCash for facilitating online transactions for business name registration payments through the app.
Vizmonte noted that this year, payments of more than 500k business name registrations were generated through GCash.
“Our digital payment journey with GCash started 13 years ago when GCash provided the online payment option for the Business Name Registration. This partnership was strengthened in 2019 when we launched the Business Registration System Next Generation,” he stressed.
Furthermore, the trade chief assured the Department’s continued efforts in streamlining business processes and boosting its partnership with the private sector.
“DTI will continue to strive hard in order to provide the finest services to our clients and to continuously strengthen our partnership together to further ease the doing business in the country,” the trade head concluded.
