The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is implementing road upgrading projects in the municipalities of Koronadal and Tupi in South Cotabato that are seen to ensure road safety and boost trading activities in Central Mindanao.
In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, DPWH Region 12 Director Basir Ibrahim said that the two projects, involving the asphalt overlaying works and reblocking of damage road sections along Maharlika Highway, are being implemented with combined allocation of ₱335.5 million from the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
The maintenance project in Koronadal covers a total of 2.2-kilometers along the 6-lane, Midsayap-Marbel Road section in Barangay Sarabia (Barrio 8), while the 1.5-kilometer segment is located along Marbel-Makar Road in Barangay Crossing Rubber, Tupi.
“Both projects are almost complete with more than 80 percent accomplishment rate, hence motorists can expect ease of travel along Maharlika Highway.”

“Upon completion, these projects will greatly contribute in hastening the delivery of agricultural products, reducing logistical costs, and producing higher income returns brought by increased local economic activities,” he added.
The road improvement works are part of the DPWH’s Asset Preservation Program, which will ensure the safety of the travelling public and extend the service life of roadways across the county.
