DPWH UPGRADES 2 FARM-TO-MARKET ROADS IN ALBAY

Motorists and farmers in the first and third district of Albay Province now reap the benefits of two recently completed road improvement projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

DPWH Regional Office 5 Director Virgilio Eduarte, in a report to DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan said that one of the completed projects is a farm-to-market road which now facilitates better access to and from the ricefields of Barangay Tagpo, Ligao City.

“What was once a rough dirt road section is now a well-paved access road that enables locals, especially farmers, to have a reliable access to essential government services and more economic opportunities.”

In Barangay Bantayan, Tabaco City, DPWH turned-over a newly-widened portion of Ligao-Tabaco Road from two lanes to four lanes.

The additional road space of 3.35 meters on both sides of the national secondary road now eases traffic congestion in the area while its additional drainage and solar street light features ensure round-the-clock road safety in the vicinity.

The FMR project in Ligao City was carried out by the DPWH Albay 3rd District Engineering Office in the amount of P14.92 million while the widening in Tabaco City was implemented by the DPWH Albay 1st District Engineering Office in the amount of P19.80 million.

The completion of the two projects is part of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s aggressive drive to prioritize agriculture and connect the markets and producers to the communities within his term.
