The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is fast-tracking the construction of a 3-kilometer coastal bypass road in the town of Lianga, Surigao del Sur.
“The Lianga Coastal Bypass Road is a major infrastructure project that will increase economic growth in the municipality and boost tourism by making the area a main stopover for foreign and local tourists visiting the various attractions in Surigao del Sur,” Secretary Mark Villar said.
“The area is a main stopover for foreign and local tourists visiting the various attractions in Surigao del Sur.”
Apart from providing a diversion from the busy Surigao-Davao Coastal Road (SDCR) Lianga Section in Barangay Poblacion, the project also features a 1.34-kilometer coastal wall that will serve as a protective barrier for storm surges.
It also has a bicycle lane and a sidewalk.
“The project will provide an area for people to enjoy a scenic coastal view.”
“Once fully completed, the project will not only improve the traffic situation along the Poblacion section but also provide an area for people to enjoy a scenic coastal view,” Villar stressed.
Undertaken by DPWH Regional Office 13, the project commenced in 2018 and is targeted to be completed by the end of 2022.
