The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has started to build two bypass roads in Pontevedra, Negros Occidental, and the city of Roxas in Capiz to address the increased volume of vehicles traversing major routes in the Western Visayas Region.
Costing P145 million, the Pontevedra Bypass Road Project measures 2.3 kilometers and passes through Barangays Ilaya and Malagit.
A collective amount of P95 million was released in 2020 and 2021 for the construction of the 1.755-kilometer road section while P50 million was allotted in 2022 for the remaining 554-meter concrete road which is now halfway completed.
“When finished, Pontevedra Bypass Road will provide a faster and more reliable transportation system for motorists arriving from the municipality of President Roxas to the municipality of Panay and vice versa without passing through the municipal proper,” DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie Bueno explained.
On the other hand, the P150.5-million, 2-lane Roxas City Bypass Road is also a multi-year project that began in 2020, concreted in 2021, and is targeted for completion before the end of this year.
The bypass road will serve as an alternate route for the traveling public.
Spanning 1.7 kilometers, the bypass road will serve as an alternate route for the traveling public, reducing congestion along San Roque Street in Roxas City and providing direct access to Roxas City Airport without passing through the city proper.
The construction of the two bypass road projects is under the project implementation supervision of DPWH Capiz 1st District Engineering Office.
