A multi-purpose building project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) with an iconic architectural design distinct for the Province of La Union continues to shape as another landmark in the City of San Fernando.

DPWH Secretary Roger Mercado personally checked on the progress of work for the ₱280 Million La Union Convention Center Project in Barangay Sevilla, San Fernando City, La Union.

With Mercado during the project visit are Undersecretaries Roberto Bernardo and Eugenio Pipo Jr.; Assistant Secretaries Antonio Molano Jr. and Ador Canlas; Region 1 Director Ronnel Tan; and other Regional and District officials of Ilocos Region.

“The three-story multi-purpose building situated in a hill with unique architectural and aesthetic design mirrors La Union’s reputation as a highly regarded surfing destination in the northern part of the Philippines,” Mercado explained.

The building project has a floor area of 2,000 square meters and is capable of accommodating around 1,500 individuals visiting the convention center that is seen to host events, exhibits, conventions, trade shows, meetings, programs of the government, and other public activities.

“Once completed, the project will be turned over by DPWH to the local government unit of La Union for operation and maintenance.”

“Once completed, the project will be turned over by DPWH to the local government unit of La Union for operation and maintenance,” the public works chief said.

The convention center will not only cut government-related expenses for seminars and training but would also double as an income-generating structure for the provincial and city government units once they open the venue for public use.

With an accomplishment of 71.45 percent as of February 2022, the DPWH has practically completed the building’s civil, electrical and mechanical works.

The slope protection works and construction of a cistern tank are ongoing under 2022 funds while further slope protection and site development will be included in the 2023 budget.
