The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is constructing a revetment wall along a portion of the Agusan River in Barangay Mapawa, Maragusan, Davao de Oro to protect farmlands and improve the livelihood of local farmers, ultimately boosting the local economy.
DPWH Regional Office XI Director Juby Cordon, in a report to Secretary Manuel Bonoan and Undersecretary for Mindanao Operations Eugenio Pipo, Jr. said that the ongoing project, now 79 percent completed, is designed to provide enhanced protection to the community, particularly to their crops, farm equipment, and livestock constantly affected by flooding in the past years.
Implemented by DPWH Davao de Oro 2nd District Engineering Office, the project involves the construction of 277.20-lineal meter on the left section and 255.64-lineal meter on the right section of the riverbank, installed with steel sheet piles, concrete barriers, and gabions as its structural components to ensure the resiliency of the structure against perennial flooding and water overflow.
