DPWH STARTS BILIRAN ROCKFALL NETTING PROJECT

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is undertaking a rockfall netting project along Biliran Circumferential Road (BCR), particularly at Barangay Inasuyan, Kawayan, in the province of Biliran.

In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, DPWH-Biliran District Engineer Alfredo Bollido said that the ongoing project costing P100 million is designed to safeguard public areas, including roads, against landslides and rockfalls while preserving the slope and promoting re-vegetation.

“The ongoing project costing P100 million is designed to safeguard public areas, including roads, against landslides and rockfalls while preserving the slope and promoting re-vegetation.”

The project which began in April 2023 entails rock netting installation as a slope protection material over an area of 4,027 square meters.

The scope of works also include a wire mesh laid on the slope with continuous anchorage, a five (5)-meter rod drilled into rock, injected by cement mortar solution for stability, clamped with spike plate and tightened with bolt.

“This project will prevent damage and prolong service life of roads by mitigating the effects of soil erosion and falling rocks, thus generating more savings from road maintenance and repairs,” Tabacon explained.

Funded under the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA), the project is currently at 62 percent accomplishment rate and is expected to be fully completed by the first quarter of 2024.
