DPWH PROTECTS MALABON FISHING COMMUNITY

Several flood control projects were recently completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to protect a riverside neighborhood inhabited by a fishing community in Barangay Muzon, Malabon City.

DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, citing a report from DPWH National Capital Region Director Loreta Malaluan, said that in the calendar year 2024, a total of seven phases of the Muzon River Wall Project was implemented, with a combined allocation of P330.50 million.

Implemented to prevent riverbank erosion and protect adjacent and nearby structures, the projects involved the installation of steel sheet piles driven into the ground to form a wall, H-pile or H-shaped steel beams for deep foundations, and thick concrete slab to connect multiple piles.

“With the new structures on both sides of Muzon River, we are able to safeguard the homes and livelihood of residents, primarily fisherfolks.”
