DPWH OPENS NEW BRIDGE ACROSS MALOGO RIVER

Residents of Barangays Canlusong and San Isidro in the municipality of E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental can now safely cross Malogo River with the construction of a new Sitio Calaptan Bridge by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie Bueno said that the bridge replacement offers a huge improvement compared to the old, dilapidated overflow bridge by providing uninterrupted transportation access and easier delivery of goods and services between the two barangays.

“The public can now access Barangay Canlusong via Barangay San Isidro, which connects to a number of communities in the uplands of E.B. Magalona.”

“Local farmers no longer have to manually carry their products when water rises along the previous overflow bridge.”

“Besides better connecting the two communities, transport of agricultural goods to markets will also be more convenient and cost-effective as local farmers no longer have to manually carry their products when water rises along the previous overflow bridge, which made it impossible for vehicles to pass,” she added.

Undertaken by DPWH Negros Occidental 1st District Engineering Office, the P24.7-million project covered the construction of a 2-lane, 30-span reinforced concrete deck girder (RCDG) bridge with grouted riprap, gabions, and metallic coating.

Other works on the Sitio Calaptan Bridge include portland concrete cement paving on both approaches to provide better access for all types of vehicles and ensure protection from erosion that may be caused by turbulent water flow.
