Access to various tourist spots in Gigantes Island of Western Visayas Region is now more convenient following the concrete paving of road by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the municipality of Carles, Iloilo.
Scope of works of the completed project include the construction of an 8.86-kilometer, 2-lane, portland concrete cement pavement (PCCP) road with 1.5-meter shoulder on both sides, with provision of slope protection.
The P255-million multi-year road project traversing barangays Langub, Piagao, and Asluman was implemented by DPWH Regional Office 6 and Iloilo 3rd District Engineering Office (DEO), under the DPWH convergence program with the Department of Tourism.
“As both local and foreign tourists flock to the well-known ‘Isla de Gigantes’ in Carles, these road upgrades are necessary in order to enable a safer and more accessible transport system going around the island.”
