The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has constructed a new revetment structure intended to protect residents and communities of Zamboanga City from river overflow during heavy rain.
In his report to DPWH Secretary Manual Bonoan and Undersecretary Eugenio Pipo, Jr., DPWH Region 9 Director Cayamombao Dia said the newly-built structures now ensure the safety of around 17,000 locals at Sitio Latap in Barangay Limpapa and Sitio Miluao, Barangay Patalon.
The project involved construction of a 6-meter grouted riprap with rubble concrete foundation in Barangay Limpapa and 6.5 meters in Barangay Patalon.
“With the completion of this flood control structure, we are hoping to mitigate the degradation of the two riverbeds, Latap River and Miluao River, and prevent damage to infrastructure and agriculture brought by typhoons.”

A total of P96.8-million was allocated under the 2021 General Appropriations Act (GAA) and 2021 Regular Local Infrastructure Program (RLIP) for the construction of the 1.4-kilometer structure.
