A flood control structure was built by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the coastal Barangay of Cortes, Surigao del Sur to ensure the safety of residents and their properties from flooding brought by dangerous tides and turbulent waves.
The 181.6 lineal meter concrete seawall constructed with concrete slope protection, grouted riprap and structural steel sheet piles is an eagerly anticipated project for the locals who frequently experience anxiety and worry during bad weather conditions.
In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, Regional Office 13 Director Pol Delos Santos said that the completion of the seawall project aims to prevent coastal erosion with the higher slope protection to safeguard the shoreline when big waves hit and protect vulnerable structures to be washed away.
“With this project, they are now better protected and their safety is ensured.”
“It is a long-awaited project as raging flood waters forced our locals living along coastal barangays to leave and reside in a safer place. With this project, they are now better protected and their safety is ensured,” Delos Santos added.
With an allocation of P15.3 million, the project was implemented by DPWH Surigao del Sur 1st District Engineering Office.
