DPWH FINISHES PORAC RIVER FLOOD CONTROL PROJECTS

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has recently completed the construction of two flood control structures along Porac River to protect low-lying communities in Porac, Pampanga against the threat of river swelling during heavy rains.

DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, citing reports from DPWH Regional Office 3 Director Roseller Tolentino, identified the newly-built slope protection along Porac River’s Jalung and Pio Sections to mitigate flooding completed in the amount of P48.84 million and P19.77 million, respectively.

“The Jalung Section slope protection is a 482 lineal-meter concrete river wall with a steel sheet pile foundation to prevent scouring of existing earth dike nearby while minimizing the impact of flooding in farm lands and residential areas.”

According to Bonoan, the Jalung Section slope protection is a 482 lineal-meter concrete river wall with a steel sheet pile foundation to prevent scouring of existing earth dike nearby while minimizing the impact of flooding in farm lands and residential areas.

“The river wall now ensures the safety of residents from the threat of flooding that may affect their livelihoods and properties during times of torrential rains,” the public works chief stressed.

The new 188-lineal-meter concrete revetment in Barangay Pio was built close to the completed river wall in Barangay Jalung to augment the existing flood control structures.

Meanwhile, the new 188-lineal-meter concrete revetment in Barangay Pio was built close to the completed river wall in Barangay Jalung to augment the existing flood control structures in safeguarding flood prone areas near the river.

Both projects were implemented by DPWH Pampanga Second District Engineering Office (DEO) with funding sourced from the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2022.
