DPWH FINISHES NUEVA VIZCAYA FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT

The rehabilitation of 360-meter Barat Flood Control Structure along Sta. Cruz River, by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), has positively impacted the farmers of Barangay Barat, Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya.

DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, citing a report from DPWH Region II Director Reynaldo Alconcel, said that since the rehabilitation of flood control structure, farmers gained enhanced safety, allowing agricultural activities—such as the growing of rice, corn, vegetables, and fruits, as well as livestock raising—to thrive without the constant threat of flood damage.

“By restoring the Barat flood control structure, we ensured that farming activities remain uninterrupted, leading to stable food production.”

The completed structure is designed to withstand and mitigate floods, protecting lives and properties in the low-lying part of Barangay Barat.

Implemented by the Nueva Vizcaya 1st District Engineering Office, the Barat Flood Control Structure was completed in the amount of P47.7 million, funded under the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
