The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the new and modern Tamasak Arena Gym in Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo, the football capital of the Philippines.
Built at the entrance of Barotac Nuevo’s football field, the gym has a total floor area of about 10,000 square meters and can accommodate a maximum of 4,200 people, making it an excellent venue for major provincial and national sporting, cultural, social, and other events, such as Palarong Pambansa.
“The building is structurally designed to provide local communities with a reliable multi-purpose venue.”
DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie Bueno mentioned in her report to Secretary Manuel Bonoan that the building is structurally designed to provide local communities with a reliable multi-purpose venue that can be used to host government services such as medical and dental missions, feeding programs, recreational and wellness activities, vaccination campaigns, and other similar events.
Complete with necessary amenities and other facilities such as locker rooms, comfort rooms, utility rooms, and a commercial space at the back of the gym, the multi-million gymnasium can also be used as a temporary evacuation center, providing a safer and stronger shelter for Ilonggos during calamities and disasters.
Undertaken by DPWH Iloilo 2nd District Engineering Office in convergence with the local government of Barotac Nuevo, the P141.4-million project was funded under the 2017-2020 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
