The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has finished the concrete paving of Hamungaya Western Visayas Agricultural Research Center (WESVIARC) farm-to-market road (FMR) in Jaro, Iloilo.
According to DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie Bueno, the concrete road will provide farmers with a faster and safer route in transporting their goods to the city and nearby towns, enhancing their productivity and opening more economic opportunities.
“By connecting Hamungaya in Barangay Buntatala to the Iloilo Radial Bypass Road, the project entailed the concreting of a two-lane road with a length of 773 meters,” Bueno said.
“With the improved FMR, local farmers no longer have to travel through dilapidated roads when delivering their products, especially during the rainy season.”
“This will boost accessibility in the city and help the local agricultural industry. With the improved FMR, local farmers no longer have to travel through dilapidated roads when delivering their products, especially during rainy season,” she added.
Costing P15.8 million, the concrete paving of the WESVIARC Hamungaya FMR project was implemented by DPWH Iloilo City District Engineering Office in convergence with the Department of Agriculture.
