In his report to Secretary Manuel Bonoan and Undersecretary for Visayas Operations Roberto Bernardo, DPWH Region 6 Director Sanny Boy Oropel said that the project built along the coastal barangay of Canhawan involves the construction of a 105-lineal meter, concrete flood control system.
“Situated along Guimaras Strait, Barangay Canhawan is vulnerable to flooding, storm surge, and high tide especially during inclement weather.”

“With the completed seawall, residents now have peace of mind knowing that they have an all-weather structure that will ensure their safety,” he added.
With the provision of portland cement concrete paved sidewalk, barriers, and stairs, the project also benefits local fishermen by serving as an alternate fishing port of the island barangays of Panobolon, Guiwanon, and Unisan which will improve transport of their daily catch.
Besides protecting lives and properties, the structure will likewise offer improved accessibility to basic goods and services, opening more development opportunities in the area.
DPWH Guimaras District Engineering Office implemented the Barangay Canhawan Seawall Project in the amount of P57.6 million.
