DPWH FINISHES FLOOD-CONTROL PROJECTS IN AURORA

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has built three flood control structures to enhance the flood risk management in Barangay Matawe, Dingalan, Aurora Province.

In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, DPWH Regional Office 3 Director Roseller Tolentino said that the DPWH Aurora District Engineering Office (DEO) has constructed and improved a total of 1.33-linear-kilometer of protective structures along waterways in Barangay Matawe that perennially overflow during heavy rains.

“The DPWH Aurora District Engineering Office constructed and improved a total of 1.33-linear-kilometer of protective structures along waterways in Barangay Matawe that perennially overflow during heavy rains.”

“In Barangay Matawe’s Purok 5, DPWH Aurora DEO constructed flood protection structures on both the left and right banks of a local creek with lengths of 118 linear meters and 531.80 linear meters, respectively,” Tolentio explained.

Also built along the left bank of the Kinasasan Creek in Barangay Matawe’s Purok 2 is a 451.50-linear-meter flood wall structure.

Meanwhile, the reinforcement of an existing flood mitigation structure covering a length of 228 linear meters on the right bank of Ablug Creek in Barangay Matawe’s Purok 4 was also implemented by DPWH Aurora DEO.

“The construction of reinforced concrete box culverts and connecting concrete pavement were utilized to build durable flood control structures.”

Tolentino explained that construction of reinforced concrete box culverts and connecting concrete pavement were utilized to construct durable flood control structures along the three-key downstream-facing waterways that drain towards Dingalan Bay.

“The delivery of the much-needed protective structures strengthens community resilience to flooding in the face of climate change,” he said.

The projects amounting to P118.80 million were funded under the 2022 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
