DPWH FINISHES FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT IN QUEZON

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of a revetment wall along the Busokbusokan River, providing a much-needed flood mitigation solution to the flood-prone communities of San Vicente and Busokbusokan, San Narciso, Quezon Province.

DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, citing a report from DPWH Region IV-A Director Jovel Mendoza, said that the P96.5-million flood control project funded under the CY 2024 Regular Infrastructure Program, was launched to address frequent severe flooding in Barangay San Vicente and nearby areas, particularly during the monsoon season and tropical storms.

“The P96.5-million flood control project was launched to address frequent severe flooding in Barangay San Vicente and nearby areas, particularly during the monsoon season and tropical storms.

According to Mendoza, the need for a flood control structure became even more critical after the community suffered extensive damages from the onslaught of Typhoon Rolly in November 2020.

The catastrophic flooding disrupted daily life, damaged properties, and compromised the safety and well-being of residents in the low-lying areas of San Narciso.

The completed flood control structure, spanning 297.50 linear meters, includes a 160-linear-meter flood wall constructed adjacent to the carriageway and a 76.60-linear-meter left section and 62.80-linear-meter right section of a 0.20-meter thick carriageway to reinforce the eroded portions of the project site.

Additionally, eight solar streetlights have been installed to improve the area’s safety and visibility, especially at night.

“With the completion of this project, the people of Barangay San Vicente can now anticipate improved protection against future flood events.”

“With the completion of this project, the people of Barangay San Vicente can now anticipate improved protection against future flood events, safeguarding residential areas, preventing erosion, and protecting agricultural lands essential to the local economy,” Mendoza said.

The flood control structure along the Busokbusokan River in Barangay San Vicente, San Narciso, Quezon, was implemented by the DPWH Quezon 3rd District Engineering Office.
