The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a flood control structure along the section of Pampanga River in Barangay Ligaya, Gabaldon, Nueva Ecija.
DPWH Regional Office 3 Director Roseller Tolentino, in his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan and Undersecretary for Central Luzon Operations Roberto Bernardo, said that the completed protective structure is a four-layered flood wall, made of stacked stone-filled gabions tied with wire.
“The newly-completed flood wall spanning 1.46 linear kilometers serves as the first line of defense of low-lying communities near the Pampanga River against potential river overflow due to heavy rainfall,” Tolentino explained.
“The completion of the flood mitigation structure along this section of Pampanga River ensures protection of lives and properties, reduces damage to nearby farmlands, and minimizes crop and livestock losses during typhoon and monsoon seasons.”
