DPWH FINISHES ALBAY RIVER SLOPE PROTECTION PROJECT

The Department of Public Works and Highways has completed a new river slope protection project near Labnig National High School in Barangay Labnig, Malinao, Albay.

The project aims to minimize the risk of downstream flooding and soil erosion, safeguarding the school and nearby residential areas.

Built along the Labnig River, the construction of the 360-meter slope protection project consists of excavation and installation of a 6-meter steel sheet pile foundation that provides agricultural communities an irrigation for their rice field.

DPWH Regional Director Virgilio Eduarte reported to Secretary Manuel Bonoan that the Labnig National High School has been experiencing gradual soil erosion during heavy rainfall, leaving damage to the school area and making locals residing near the riverbank worry for their safety.

“The protection of Labnig National High School is crucial because it also serves as a temporary shelter for residents of Barangay Labnig during calamities.”

Completed in the amount of P48-million, the river control structure was funded under the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
