The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is building a concrete revetment structure that would prevent flooding brought by the overflow of Hijo River in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.
DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, citing a report from DPWH Region 11 Director Juby Cordon, said that the flood control project is currently being implemented by the DPWH Davao del Norte District Engineering Office (DEO) along the 840.84-meter section of Hijo River in Barangay Madaum.
“This will complement the completed revetment on the other side of the river.”
“We are building 819.28 linear meters of concrete revetment and a 21.56-linear meter closure to strengthen the riverbanks and prevent further erosion and scouring. This will complement the completed revetment on the other side of the river,” Cordon said.
The flood control project in Barangay Madaum commenced civil works in April 2024 and is currently ahead of schedule at 50 percent accomplishment rate.
