DPWH FAST-TRACKS GABALDON FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT

The Department of Public Works and Highways is fast-tracking the construction of a flood control structure along Coronel River to better protect communities in Gabaldon, Nueva Ecija against threat of inundation come rainy season.

DPWH Nueva Ecija Second District Engineering Office (DEO) is implementing the P88.4-million project that involves the construction of an 846-lineal-meter gabion-type flood control structure along Coronel River’s Barangay Bugnan Section in Gabaldon town.

“Providing better protection to ensure safety of residents’ lives and properties is among the top priorities of DPWH in the region.”

In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan and Undersecretary for Operations in Central Luzon Roberto Bernardo, DPWH Regional Office 3 Director Roseller Tolentino said that providing better protection to ensure safety of residents’ lives and properties is among the top priorities of DPWH in the region.

According to Tolentino, the project is at 86 percent completed in just less than three months since it started in February 2023.

“Completion of the whole project is slated in October 2023 but may be moved on an earlier date.”

“Completion of the whole project is slated in October 2023 but may be moved on an earlier date if good weather permits and no delays affect the construction activities,” he added.

Upon its completion, the six-layered gabion wall, which is designed to be connected to previously built protective structures in the area, is seen to improve crop production by shielding nearby farmlands from river water over flow and reducing land scouring of the river banks.
