DPWH COMPLETES SIPALAY CITY COASTAL ROAD

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has finished paving a 3.5-kilometer coastal road to facilitate better access to various white sand beaches and other potential tourist destinations in Sipalay City, Negros Occidental.

According to DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie Bueno, the project involves upgrading of the coastal road from gravel to concrete with construction of slope protection, installation of metal guard rails, and provision of post and hazard markers and reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings.

The newly-paved road aims to spur more economic activities in the area considering its tourism, agriculture, and marine development potential.

Traversing the coastal barangay of Cayhagan, the newly-paved road aims to spur more economic activities in the area considering its tourism, agriculture, and marine development potential.

“With this upgraded coastal tourism road, various beaches in the area may be converted into tourism sites that will eventually provide job opportunities among locals,” Buena said.

Agriculture development in the area will likewise be improved because of the reduced travel time and delivery cost of transporting agricultural and marine products to the market.

DPWH Negros Occidental 3rd District Engineering Office began concreting the 2-kilometer portion of the road in 2020 with an allocation of P40 million, while the remaining 1.5 kilometers was completed in March this year costing P30 million.
