The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of two new flood control structures in the Municipality of Jaen and Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija.
DPWH Secretary Mark Villar commended DPWH Nueva Ecija Second District Engineering Office for completing the slope protection projects along Pampanga River in Barangay San Roque, Jaen and Barangay Sumacab Norte, Cabanatuan City as part of the disaster mitigation measures implemented by the Department.
“The P48-M flood control structure in Jaen will also prevent inundation in the farmlands and houses of Novo Ecijanos.”
“The P48.66-million flood control structure in Barangay San Roque in Jaen will not only prevent flooding along San Leonardo-Jaen-San Isidro Road and Jaen Bridge but will also prevent inundation in the farmlands and houses of Novo Ecijanos,” said Villar.
The other project worth P42.8-million was constructed to protect Barangay Sumacab Norte and motorists passing along the Sumacab-San Jose-Bonifacio Road in Cabanatuan City.
According to DPWH Nueva Ecija Second District Engineer Ricardo Puno, aside from the revetment in Jaen and Cabanatuan City, they have also recently completed the rehabilitation of the left portion of the Pampanga River Flood Control in Barangay San Carlos, Municipality of Cabiao which is adjacent to Jose Abad Santos Avenue.
“We are continuously building dikes and other nonstructural measures such as improving waterways and river area to reduce flood hazard in the highly-susceptible areas along Pampanga River,” said Engineer Puno.
