The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has paved a farm-to-market road linking the far-flung area of Sitio Tis-an of Barangay Isio to other communities in Cauayan, Negros Occidental.
Secretary Mark Villar commended the efforts of the DPWH Negros Occidental 3rd District Engineering Office (DEO) in overseeing the improvement of the 1.73-lane-kilometer road with inclusion of slope protection works as per approved plans and specifications.
Citing a report from District Engineer Rodney Gustilo, Villar noted the importance of the road upgrade from gravel to concrete as it provides a convenient means of transportation and delivery of crops and agricultural products from the community to market and city centers.
“The completion of the road concreting project has also addressed the issue of the road becoming unpassable during the rainy season.”
“The completion of the road concreting project has also addressed the issue of the road becoming unpassable during the rainy season that usually affects the primary source of income of Sitio Tis-an’s residents,” the public works chief stressed.
“This paved road network can uplift the socio-economic activity in the locality.”
“Moreover, this paved road network can lead to the discovery of other potential developments in agriculture that will uplift the socio-economic activity in the locality, thus alleviating the quality of life of the people in the rural area of Cauayan, Negros Occidental,” the public works head added.
The P11.88-million farm-to-market road, which has proven beneficial to the community since its completion in December 2020, was made possible through the DPWH and Department of Agriculture’s (DA) convergence program of road improvement projects.
