As the number of COVID-19 cases continue to spike in the province of Camarines Sur, the Bula Masarig Engineered Bamboo, one of the top manufacturers of bamboo-made products in the province, made an initiative to produce face shields with frames made from kauayan-tinik.
The kauayan-tinik is a perennial, woody-stemmed grass known for its versatile uses. The Forest Products Research and Development Institute (DOST-FPRDI) provided the requirements, technical designs, specifications and technical assistance to Bula Masarig, through the assistance of the Provincial Science and Technology Center (DOST-V PSTC) – Camarines Sur under the GREAT Women Project.
DOST-V and PSTC-Camarines Sur continues to support, patronize, and promote locally-made products and technology to reduce the risks brought by COVID-19, and revitalize economic growth and development in the region.
Manufactured using FPRDI’s Bamboo-Framed Face Shield Technology, the face shield is lightweight and convenient to use, with a linear length of eighteen (18) inches, has a replaceable PVC sheet, and non-slip adjustable strap.
Besides this initiative, Bula Masarig has also previously developed an environment-friendly foot-pressed bamboo alcohol dispenser prototype to reduce physical contact with containers as a safety measure.
