DICT EYES 11,000 FREE WI-FI SITES IN 2023

The House of Representatives concluded the period of interpellation on the 2024 budget of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), amounting to P7.25 billion.

Sponsoring the DICT’s proposal, Makati City Representative Luis Campos, Jr. reported that the agency is “on target” in the implementation of the “Free Wi-Fi for All” program, particularly in its aim to set up 11,000 sites within the year.

Campos noted further that the DICT seeks to set up 14,000 additional sites in 2024.

“Funding is not an issue to ensure the timely rollout of the project.”

The veteran legislator assured his fellows that funding is not an issue to ensure the timely rollout of the project.

“There is an urgency of providing free Wi-Fi in public schools, especially with the emergence of new learning modes, as well as the suspension of classes.”

ACT Teachers Party-list Representative France Castro also took the opportunity to stress the urgency of providing free Wi-Fi in public schools, especially with the emergence of new learning modes, as well as the suspension of classes.

Campos lobbied support for the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA)-endorsed projects that were not included in the National Privacy Commission’s (NPC) budget.

These are the data privacy and security strengthening program, digitalization of the DICT’s financial management and administrative services, and strategic human resource development.
