To boost its education technology efforts, the Department of Education (DepEd) partnered with Khan Academy Philippines Inc. to provide more learners access to digital learning content.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara, Undersecretary for Curriculum and Teaching Gina Gonong, Khan Academy PH President and CEO Geraldine Acuña-Sunshine and Trustee and COO Myrish Cadapan-Antonio led the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Agreement held at DepEd Central Office.
The partnership will strengthen the foundational skills of learners in numeracy and literacy through the Khan Academy online course content.
“There’s really the dream of differentiated instructions. This is what Khan Academy is all about, using technology to cater to the needs of the students,” Angara said.
“It is an amazing tool, one of an amazing phenomenon partly because of not only what it does but also how it operates.”
“It is an amazing tool, one of an amazing phenomenon partly because of not only what it does but also how it operates. It helps our students, helps our parents, and it helps our teachers,” the education chief added.
Additionally, the roll-out of the partnership will soon enable pilot schools, that will be selected through a set of criteria, to have the first look in the Khan PH.
DepEd will also provide the translation of the content of the platform to ensure Filipino learners and teachers can maximize the courses Khan PH will offer.
“This can help those teachers teach better, allow a different way for students to take in the subjects and understand it in a different way.”

To ensure the progress and improved outcomes of the partnership, DepEd will soon provide the finalization of learning materials for the Grade 10 MATATAG Curriculum, gauge the readiness of schools for the pilot run of the Khan PH program, and discuss the limitations of the DepEd Learning Management System (LMS) to accommodate the Khan Academy platform.
The signing program was attended by members of the Khan Academy PH, DepEd Executive and Management Committees, and other education stakeholders.
