Former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, retired Director General Ronald Dela Rosa, will push for the restoration of the death penalty if he wins in the senatorial race next year.
Dela Rosa met with local chief executives of Ilocos Norte as well as students of the Northwestern University (NWU) in Laoag City recently.
While narrating his experience as former chief of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) and the Philippine National Police, he said the death penalty is the only solution to solve the drug menace affecting thousands of Filipinos.
“Habang kinakausap ko ang mga convicted drug lords doon, nalaman po natin…Iyong mga foreigners, iyong mga Chinese, Taiwanese, at Hong Kong nationals na mas maganda daw dito sa atin dahil mahina ang ating batas pagdating sa illegal drugs (When I talked to the convicted drug lords, the foreigners, the Chinese, Taiwanese, and Hong Kong nationals, they said it is better to transact here because of our lenient laws on illegal drugs) ,” dela Rosa said.

Running under the banner of Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan, dela Rosa told Ilocanos he has no other intent but to continue serving the Filipino people “with a clean heart and with no desire to get rich” while in politics.

Together with some big bike enthusiasts who accompanied dela Rosa in his northern tour, the group made a stop at a drug symposium at the NWU before going to Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte.
Dela Rosa is the first PNP chief appointed by the President. Prior to his stint as Davao City police chief, he also served with the PNP’s Intelligence Group and the Reactionary Standby Support Force.
