DAVAO RIVER REVETMENT PROJECT NOW 71% COMPLETE

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is more than halfway in its construction of a revetment structure along a portion of the Davao River in Calinan District, Davao City.

In a report to DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, DPWH Regional Office 11 Director Juby Cordon said that the DPWH Davao City Second District Engineering Office (DEO) is overseeing the construction of a one-kilometer revetment structure made out of concrete along the Davao River in Barangay Pangyan section.

Cordon reported the 71 percent completion rate as of August 2023 of the P93.6-million revetment wall project, which is funded through the DPWH Regular Infrastructure Program under the 2022 General Appropriations Act (GAA).

“Expected to be completed in January 2024, the Barangay Pangyan revetment wall will complement the protective barriers currently in place along the Davao River that the DPWH Davao City Second DEO completed through a multi-year project that started in 2019,” Cordon said.

“Through this multi-year endeavor, we aim to address water-related hazards by ensuring long-term protection and stability of the riverbanks to minimize the adverse effects of flooding and erosion to communities nearby Davao River.”
