This was the message of Senator Alan Peter Cayetano as he encouraged fellow Taguigeños to be willing to repent and change oneself in order to be an instrument in the continued transformation Taguig City.
In his speech during the official launch of his wife and incumbent Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano’s slate for the 2025 elections, the veteran legislator said repentance is not just about admitting one’s mistakes but also taking action and vowing never to repeat it.
“Ang ibig sabihin ng repentance, kung mali ang direksyon mo, hindi pupwedeng sorry pero y’un pa rin ang direksyon mo,” the seasoned lawmaker said.
Recalling the heated exchange he had with Senator Migz Zubiri during a Senate session last month, Cayetano said he has already repented of it.
The two senators had quickly reconciled after the tense exchange.
Cayetano’s wife and her ticket, dubbed the “TLC Team,” had filed their certificates of candidacy on Monday, seeking to continue their vision of a “transformative, lively, and caring city” for the City of Taguig.
Expressing his full support for the team, Senator Cayetano emphasized reasoning and intelligence in choosing leaders.
“Imagine-in nyo po ang 2050. Ano ang itsura ng Taguig? Itsura bang Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, o itsura ng Taguig 25 years ago?” he asked supporters of the team.
“So ang aking appeal sa inyong lahat, magtulong-tulong tayo sa lideratong dadalhin tayo doon [sa unang imahe],” he continued.
The TLC Team endorsed incumbent 1st District Rep. Ading Cruz Jr. despite Cayetano’s brother Lino Cayetano running for the same position.
Senator Cayetano emphasized that the coming election is not about politics but the future of the city.
