“Higit sa pera, puso.”
This according to Quezon City 6th District Councilor Bobby Castelo, who on Tuesday learned that San Miguel Corporation (SMC) has allocated PhP1 billion pesos to buy Covid-19 vaccines for its 70,000 employees and extended workforce.
SMC, in coordination with relevant government agencies, has secured vaccine doses from different pharmaceutical sources, and is in the process of finalizing the implementation setup and rollout of its inoculation program, so they will be ready once the vaccines arrive.
“Our program is in line with our core value of malasakit and aims to create a safe and healthy workplace so that we can further contribute to our country’s economic recovery,” said company president Ramon S. Ang.
“Acts like this, going above and beyond the call of duty and obligation, is what makes the world survive.”
Castelo, who is on his third and last term as Councilor, immediately praised the move by saying, “acts like this, going above and beyond the call of duty and obligation, is what makes the world survive even the worst disasters and pandemics.”
“By taking care of their employees, these companies are taking care of themselves, and the rest of society will benefit from their kindness and generosity.”
“Marami pa pong malalaking kumpanya sa ating bansa. Sana ay tularan nila ang halimbawang itong bakunahan ang sarili nilang mga empleyado. By taking care of their employees, these companies are taking care of themselves, and the rest of society will benefit from their kindness and generosity,” said Castelo in urging other kind-hearted corporations, institutions and establishments to similarly have vaccination programs for their respective employees.
Castelo added that, “business with compassion, buhay bago bulsa, this is what we need more of, especially in the middle of a very long pandemic.”
“The vaccines, despite the frustrating delay, will arrive sooner or later. The government can only cover the priority population. The rest will have to find a way, somehow, somewhere. It would be great if big and rich companies can help the country, their employees, and themselves. Napakalaking gaan ito sa pasanin,” concluded Castelo.
