Milkfish, commonly known as “Bangus” has recently grabbed the limelight among “Dukwag Agrikultura” farm products of Borongan City in Eastern Samar.
This was the good news that Borongan City Mayor Dayan Agda shared to members of the media in a recent interview.
“Year 2024 opened a good start for the fishery sector.”
Bangus used to lag behind but now, Agda said year 2024 opened a good start for the fishery sector.
“Many availed of the loan to try fish production, specifically bangus.”
The City agriculture department told the mayor this was due to the increase of the number of residents taking the loan to try fish production, specifically bangus.
He added that unlike before, fish cages now sprawl all over the coastal areas of barangay Canlaray, Tabunan, Canjaway and Pta. Maria.
“This view is interestingly visible, as one would see it from the window of a taking-off PAL plane from Borongan Airport,” Agda described.
He also shared that Borongan Bangus can be at par with Dagupan’s because they grow in salty waters with organic feeds that abound the area.
Former San Saturnino barangay chairman Marcelino Legion has emerged as the prime Bangus producer in the locality.
Legion delivers the Bangus requirements of restaurants and households in Borongan.
