Senator Bong Go inspected several projects in Cortes, Bohol, which he supported as vice chair of the Senate Committee on Finance.
Go’s visit started with a tour of the ongoing construction site of the Governor Celestino Gallares Multi-Specialty Medical Complex.
The legislator is the principal sponsor of Republic Act No. 11883, which spearheaded the transformation of the Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital (GCGMH) into a multi-specialty medical complex.
“With this state-of-the-art facility, we aim to extend comprehensive and specialized medical services right at their doorstep.”
“This multi-specialty medical complex represents our commitment to provide quality healthcare to our fellow Boholanos. With this state-of-the-art facility, we aim to extend comprehensive and specialized medical services right at their doorstep,” the lawmaker said.
RA 11883 is a major step towards improving healthcare access in the region, which previously lacked specialized medical services.
The senator was instrumental in passing this act, and the ongoing construction reflects the dedication and commitment of the government to uplifting public healthcare.
He assured that the new medical complex would alleviate the need for Boholanos to travel to Manila for specialized healthcare services, as the facility will have specialty centers.
“Para hindi niyo na kailangang bumyahe pa sa Manila sa inyong pagpapa-ospital, dito na lang sa Island Province of Bohol,” Go said.
He earlier successfully principally sponsored and is one of the authors of Senate Bill No. 2212, or the proposed “Regional Specialty Centers Act”, which aims to establish specialty centers in select DOH hospitals throughout the Philippines, with mental health services as one of the specialties included.
The measure was passed before the session break and is now awaiting the approval of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. before it can be enacted into law.
His visit continued with an inspection of the Cortes Municipal Public Park and the Cortes Municipal Grounds.
Go emphasized the importance of public spaces in ensuring the community’s development and well-being.
“Public spaces like these are the heartbeat of our community. They provide a place where people can come together, exercise, and enjoy the beauty of our natural environment,” he stressed.
Go also checked the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) building, a rescue vehicle, and a fire truck. He highlighted the importance of these investments in ensuring community safety and resilience.
“These investments are not just about equipment or infrastructure; they’re about our readiness to respond in times of emergencies.”
