BACOLOD OPENS 1ST DORMITORY FOR STUDENT ATHLETES

Seven months after breaking ground, Bacolod City’s first-ever Athletes’ Dormitory at Romanito P. Maravilla Sr. National High School (RMSHNS) in Barangay Estefania was inaugurated.

Supported by Mayor Albee Benitez, the ₱12.5 million facility is designed to provide student-athletes with a safe and comfortable space for training and academics.

Benitez called the dormitory a “home for champions”.

“I pushed for the construction of the dormitory after seeing the athletes stay in a small, old shack behind the school campus last year.”

Using the city’s Special Education Fund, the mayor said he pushed for the construction of the dormitory after seeing the athletes stay in a small, old shack behind the school campus last year.

The dormitory features two separate bedrooms accommodating 32 athletes—16 boys and 16 girls—each with individual beds and cabinets.

Amenities include a dining and cooking area, dedicated comfort rooms, an office, and a stock room.

“This facility will now serve as a dedicated space for our outstanding athletes to train, rest, and excel.”

This milestone marks a significant step in Bacolod’s commitment to sports development and youth empowerment.

School principal Gladys Gerona is grateful to Benitez for making “this dream a reality”.

“To our athletes, this dormitory is for you. We hope that it will be a home away from home, filled with opportunities for learning, development, and personal achievement,” Gerona stressed.
