With the support of Mayor Albee Benitez, the City of Bacolod is taking proactive and innovative measures to address the issue of flooding with its flood management system, particularly the Pump and Flood Gate Systems.
The project makes Bacolod City the first local government unit (LGU) in the country to adopt the innovative solution to prevent flooding in vulnerable areas.
“Global warming continues which increases the city’s vulnerability to flood and affects numerous communities.”
During his roadmap presentation, Benitez recognized the need for an immediate response to the flooding problem as the global warming continues which increases the city’s vulnerability to flood and affects numerous communities.
As a solution, Bacolod City introduces the Pump Gate System that will be positioned at major rivers, including Mandalagan, Magsungay, and Lupit. The Pump and Flood Gates can effectively rehabilitate drainage systems, control water levels, and prevent cases of flooding.
To further strengthen the flood control initiative, the city will also be establishing the DRRMO Unified Command Center and will be deploying Mobile Command Centers which will ensure a coordinated and immediate disaster response.
