The City Government of Bacolod launched its Solar Power System in a Ceremonial Switch-On held at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) Lobby.
Themed “Bacolod City: Leading the Way to Sustainable Energy Solutions”, it marks a significant step forward in Bacolod’s renewable energy journey.
The new solar power system is expected to reduce energy consumption by approximately 48%, bringing substantial savings while minimizing environmental impact.
“This project is a testament to our vision of a greener and more sustainable Bacolod. By harnessing solar energy, we not only reduce costs but also lead by example in protecting our environment for future generations,” Mayor Albee Benitez said.
Benitez added that by utilizing solar power for the government buildings, the city government is expected to reduce its electricity costs by about 50 percent.
“The electricity bills at the Government Center amount to P2 to P3 million so we’re expecting about P1.5 million savings per month.”

Councilor Kalaw Puentevella, Chair of the SP Committee on Energy, delivered a message of support, while Frederick Tesfay, Project Head of the GIZ Urban Act Project, served as the keynote speaker, highlighting the global importance of renewable energy initiatives.
