Almost 115,000 colorful lights glittering at the Bacolod Public Plaza and the Government Center are bringing more life to this year’s Christmas celebration in the “City of Smiles.”
At the plaza, some 95,000 lights have been installed to turn the venue into a glittering spectacle of the Yuletide season.
The bandstand becomes the “Light Castle” while the nearby Jubilee Tower is showcased as the “Tower of Lights.”
In the middle of the plaza, a 40-foot neon-hued passageway dubbed the “Tunnel of Lights” draws visitors for some photo opportunities.
These installations were lit up recently in ceremonies attended by city officials led by Mayor Evelio Leonardia, who said the event is dedicated to the people of Bacolod.
Alliance Global Inc. (AGI) subsidiaries Emperador Inc. and Megaworld sponsored both the Christmas displays at the plaza and the Government Center, where close to 20,000 lights were switched.
Leonardia thanked AGI chairman Andrew Tan, adopted son of the city and honorary mayor of Bacolod, for his company’s continued support to the city government.
“Bacolod City will be back on track once the COVID-19 pandemic is over.”
The mayor also assured Bacolodnons the city will be “back on track” once the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is over.
“Bacolod will grow the way it was before. We will continue to progress and we will bounce back stronger,” he added.
“With the continued public-private partnership, the city’s economic progress will soar to even greater levels in the coming years.”
Leonardia said with the continued public-private partnership, the city’s economic progress will soar to even greater levels in the coming years.
“We were able to keep a dynamic local economy despite the many challenges during the last two years. With our resilience and strong resolve, things could only get better and the future a lot brighter under the new normal,” he stressed.
