CAMILLE VILLAR VOWS: OFWS ARE PRIORITY

Noting the sacrifices that many Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) endure to make lives better for their families back home, millennial senatorial candidate Camille Villar vowed to further ensure the protection of OFWs here and abroad.

Camille Villar said there is a need to integrate the roles of government agencies involved in looking into the welfare of the OFWs.

While Congress legislated the creation of the Department of Migrant Workers, Camille Villar noted the agency is still experiencing “birth pains” as it is tasked to handle cases of maltreated OFWs, overstaying Filipinos, repatriation and other cases.

Camille Villar noted that she and her family “have a long and deep relationship with OFWs”, noting how his father, former Senate President Manny Villar built his first housing unit for an OFW about 50 years ago.

The government should always ensure protection of OFWs, while they and their families should also be taught ways to invest their hard-earned income, said Camille Villar.

This is the reason why the Villars, through the initiative of former Senate President Manny Villar and Senator Cynthia Villar, conduct the annual gathering of OFWs and their families dubbed as the OFW Family Summit.

“We have the OFW Family Summit that aims to help the families of OFWs here to form a livelihood or makapag negosyo sila or form a livelihood. We also give house and lot as tribute to every OFW family who dreams to have their own homes,” Camille Villar said.

During the OFW Summit, there are various seminars about government assistance to OFWs, discussions on how to start a livelihood, financial literacy and inspirational talks from successful OFWs who made it good in their own start-up businesses upon returning to the country.

Camille Villar vowed that, while life will always give us challenges, she would always be there for OFWs to continue working for their welfare.
