MASBATE GOV’T GOES AFTER ILLEGAL FISHERS

Two fishing vessels, known locally as “Palupad,” were apprehended recently for engaging in illegal fishing activities in the municipal water of Barangay Baybay, Balud, Masbate.

The operation marks a significant step in the municipality’s commitment to protecting its marine resources.

The apprehension were joint effort by Balud Mayor Rodolfo Estrella Jr., Balud Vice Mayor Felimon Abelita III and Balud Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer Cris De Leon.

Estrella emphasizing the seriousness of the situation, stated, “All those who violate the law will be held accountable.”

The mayor instructed Barangay Captain Aide Abelita of Baybay, along with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and MENRO, to distribute the fish seized from the fishing vessels apprehended.

He stressed his commitment to curbing illegal fishing activities within the municipality.

“I will not tolerate any further violations of the municipal ordinances,” the mayor stressed.

The operation reaffirms the municipality’s dedication to enforcing fisheries regulations and safeguarding the local marine ecosystem.

It also sends a strong message to all fishing vessels operating within the Balud waters: compliance with local ordinances is crucial for the sustainability of the fishing industry and the preservation of the marine environment.
