The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has made significant progress on the Sta. Irene – San Miguel Road Project in Barangay Sta. Irene, municipality of Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur, a crucial infrastructure project aimed at improving inter-provincial connectivity between Agusan del Sur and Surigao del Sur.
DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, citing a report from DPWH Region XIII OIC-Director Alex Ramos, said that the ongoing 36.90-kilometer road project was already substantially completed with 30.10 kilometers of road opening and 7.47-kilometer segment paved.
In January 2025, the gravelling of a 2.88-kilometer with the provision of slope protection in Barangay Sta. Irene was completed in the amount of P173.70 million.
To complete the Sta. Irene – San Miguel Road Project, a 5.52-kilometer road opening and a 6.8-kilometer remaining section need to be concrete paved, together with the provision for the concrete-lined canal, slope protection, and road safety devices.
“Once completed, the road project is expected to significantly reduce travel time, lower transportation costs, and boost regional economic development.”
