Negros Occidental Governor Bong Lacson and Board Member Jeffrey Tubola led the turnover of financial assistance to 17 Sambayanan Negros volunteers and Itik Pinas Project to ten National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) associations in the province.
The Itik Pinas Raising for Balut and Salted Egg Project, through the Provincial Veterinary Office, aims to address the gap in the supply of “balut” (fertilized duck eggs) in Negros Occidental, provide livelihood opportunities to farmers and FR associations, and support the province’s food sufficiency initiatives.
The project costs P2 million, which includes 1,000 breeder ducks, ten incubators with a 250-egg capacity, and 127 bags of duck feed (50 kg per bag).
“The province needs to fill the gap in its balut supply of about 700,000 pieces a month,” Lacson said.
“Before the bird flu scare, we imported from other provinces. Right now, we do not allow it, that’s why we lack balut supply.”

Meanwhile, a total of P342,000 worth of financial assistance was distributed to Sambayanan Negros volunteers or community peace and development volunteers from various towns and cities of the province, facilitated by the Provincial Planning and Development Office.
The activity was held at the Provincial Capitol in the presence of Brig. Gen. Ted Dumosmog, 303rd Brigade Commander, and Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Placeda Lemana, among others.
