The UPLB Chemical Society, a duly recognized academic organization dedicated to stimulating enthusiasm and understanding of chemistry, is thrilled to be back with its triennial week-long nationwide chemistry fair—Kapnayan! After being conducted virtually in 2022, Kapnayan returns on-site this year at the University of the Philippines Los Baños from January 27 to February 1 2025.
In its 17th iteration, Kapnayan returns with a theme: “A Cure’s Formula: Catalyzing Drug Discovery Towards Health Equity Through Medicinal Chemistry” aiming to raise awareness, especially among high school students, about the significance of medicinal chemistry and to address the pressing issues of health inequity in the Philippines. Specifically, this aims to ignite interest among high school students in the contribution of medicinal chemistry to creating a healthier society and provides a glimpse into the meticulous process of developing life-saving cures by chemists.
This year, Kapnayan promises an immersive experience to the participants with nature and educational trips, physical exhibits, insightful seminars, and exciting contests such as research symposiums, quiz contest, extemporaneous speech contest, science writing contest, poster-making contest, photography contest—all on the national level!
With 37 participating secondary schools all over the country, Kapnayan offers not only a competitive platform but also an avenue to celebrate and appreciate scientific principles.
In the spirit of Kapnayan, the organizers strive to inspire the Filipino youth to drive positive change and contribute to the advancement of health equity in the country by imparting the vital role of medicinal chemistry and the drug discovery process.
