The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Department of Agriculture (DA) conducted a market inspection in Mutya ng Pasig Mega Market and a nearby mart to ensure the availability of reasonably priced essential goods.
This initiative follows a similar inspection conducted in Quezon City where key officials monitored prices and supply levels of basic necessities and prime commodities (BNPCs).
DTI Secretary Cristina Roque, who also chairs the National Price Coordinating Council (NPCC), emphasized the government’s commitment to maintaining stable supply and affordable prices for consumers.
“We are actively working to protect consumers and promote fair competition in the marketplace.”
“The DTI is dedicated to ensuring affordable access to essential goods for every Filipino in a ‘Bagong Pilipinas’. Through comprehensive price and supply monitoring nationwide and strengthened inter-agency collaboration, we are actively working to protect consumers and promote fair competition in the marketplace,” Roque stresed.
A thorough review of 99 stock keeping units (SKUs) was undertaken to ensure compliance with the Price Act and the Consumer Act.
During the inspection, a thorough review of 99 stock keeping units (SKUs) was undertaken to ensure compliance with the Price Act and the Consumer Act, particularly regarding accurate price tags and proper product labeling. Products inspected included bread, noodles, canned fish, canned milk, coffee, and laundry soap.
To address the crucial concern for rice affordability, the joint team also inspected three rice stalls in the market. This action forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure a stable supply of affordable rice across the country.
In addition, the trade chief and Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. personally assessed 11 market stalls selling fish, poultry, meat, fruits, vegetables, and other related goods. This demonstrated a collaborative approach to price monitoring across various food categories.
The monitoring team comprised officials from both the DTI and the DA, including DTI-Fair Trade Group (FTG) Assistant Secretary Teodoro Agaton Uvero, DTI-Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau (FTEB) Director Regino Mallari Jr., DA Undersecretary Roger Navarro, DA Assistant Secretary Atty. Genevieve Velicaria-Guevarra, DA Assistant Secretary Arnel De Mesa, and DA Director Junibert De Sagun.
The initiative was further supported by Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto and President Joseph Rudolph Lo of Food Terminal Inc.
