2ND THURSDAY OF JANUARY IS NATIONAL BAPTIST DAY

“National Baptist Day is more than a celebration; it is a recognition of the indelible impact that Baptist communities have in uplifting lives and spreading the teachings of faith, love, and hope across our nation.”

This is according to the House Committee on Human Rights Chair and Manila 6th District Representative Benny Abante, who urged Baptist communities and educators in the country to continue to be “the bright lights” in the country who help promote “positive traditional Filipino values.”

“Your efforts help shape the hearts and minds of younger generations of Filipinos.”

“To our Baptist educators and communities, you are more than teachers and congregations—you are stewards of faith and character. Your efforts help shape the hearts and minds of younger generations of Filipinos, instilling values that inspire them to become responsible, compassionate, and God-fearing citizens who embrace their role in nation-building. Let your leadership and example continue to serve as a guiding light of hope and a force for good in our nation,” the legislator stressed.

A longtime pastor and public servant, Abante is the author of the House version of Republic Act Number 11897 or the National Baptist Day Act. Enacted in July 2022, the law designates the second Thursday of January each year as a special working holiday to honor Baptists for their continuous pursuit of an evangelical mission that strengthens society.

This includes the establishment of Christian schools that instill academic excellence and build character, as well as churches that teach biblical principles that foster community development.

The lawmaker, who founded the Metropolitan Bible Baptist Church in 1975, emphasized the critical role of faith in shaping the moral foundation of Philippine society.

“Faith is the light that guides us through the challenges of modern society, and shields us against its temptations.”

He pointed out that “faith is the light that guides us through the challenges of modern society, and shields us against its temptations. It compels us to do the right thing and to take the morally upright path when confronted by the corrupting influences that have eroded traditional family values.”

The commemoration of National Baptist Day, added Abante, serves as a call to action for individuals and communities to reflect on their values and actions.

“Our shared faith reminds us that despite our differences, we are all called to love one another and work together for the common good. This is the spirit that Baptists embody and inspire in others,” he explained.

Abante has long championed the importance of faith in public service.

Quoting Matthew 5:16, he said: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven; National Baptist Day challenges us to live out our faith, inspiring others through our actions and glorifying God in the process.”
