DPWH FINISHES QUEZON RIVER FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT

Residents along the left bank of the Catanauan River can now look forward to safer and more resilient living conditions, as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a flood control structure in one of the flood-prone communities of Catanauan, Quezon Province.

DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, citing a report from DPWH Region 4A Director Jovel Mendoza, said that the constructed flood control project was implemented to address the recurring flooding issues along the riverside of Barangay 10.

Over the years, flooding along the Catanauan River has caused significant damage to residential areas including loss of life, destruction of properties, and economic disruptions.

“The P74.2 million riverwall will serve as a protective barrier against flooding, safeguarding residential areas, roads, plantations, and other critical infrastructure.”

“The P74.2 million riverwall will serve as a protective barrier against flooding, safeguarding residential areas, roads, plantations, and other critical infrastructure from flood-related damages, ensuring the safety and long-term viability of the community,” Mendoza explained.

To mitigate these impacts, DPWH Quezon 3d District Engineering Office completed the construction of 255.20 linear meters of flood control structure, with the first section spanning 183.20 linear meters and the second section extending 72 linear meters, effectively closing the gap between two existing structures.
